Through January 16: LIFE Magazine and the Power of Photography Exhibit at MFA Boston

Don’t miss this incredible exhibit, which features classic images from one of the most iconic magazines in history alongside works by contemporary photographers who were inspired by Life’s renowned photojournalism. The exhibition showcases how photography has shaped our perception of the world around us.

January 1: First Run 5K/10K in Lowell

For the New Year, kick off healthy habits with a First Run 5K or 10K – and don’t sweat it; you don’t have to run. There’ll be plenty of walkers there. And even better: If you participate in the 2023 First Run, you get free, unlimited bowling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bowlero Lowell. You can also enjoy complimentary Bloody Marys, mimosas and Smuttynose Beer if you’re over 21.

January 1: SoWa Vintage Market at SoWa Boston

January 1: INNgloo Wonderland at the Inn at Hastings Park

January 1-2: Haitian Independence Day Party at Unity Sports & Cultural Club

This two-day event celebrates Haitian independence with food, music and activities. There’ll be live performances from some of Haiti’s top musicians, as well as traditional dishes like griot, djon djon rice and more. And don’t miss the Haitian independence parade on January 2, which will feature floats and costumes.

January 7: Wildlife in the City: Winter Tracking at Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary

Learn all about animal tracking in the wintertime with this event from 1-3 p.m., which will take participants through the forest to track animals such as deer, fox, rabbits and more. You can even create a plaster cast of tracks if you find them!

January 7: Harvard Square Food Tour at Harvard Square Meeting Spot

January 14: Winter Fairy and Gnome Home Workshop at Powisset Farm

Get creative and craft a mini winter home for your fairy or gnome garden with this workshop from 10 a.m. to noon. You’ll get all the materials you need, plus helpful tips and techniques from the instructor, who will also provide guidance on how to properly care for your magical creation.

January 15-29: Shanna Fliegel: The Poetic Artifact at Boston Sculptors Gallery

Don’t miss this exciting exhibition from artist Shanna Fliegel, which features sculptures that explore the surreal, dreamlike qualities of everyday objects. Through a variety of materials, her work examines how cultural and personal memories are embedded in the objects we surround ourselves with.

January 20-21: Magic City Hippies Winter Tour 2023 at Paradise Rock Club
